[edit]From Classical Syriac ܝܘܢܢ (Yawnān) or from Ancient Greek Ἰωνᾶν (Iōnân), the accusative of Ἰωνᾶς (Iōnâs); ultimately from Hebrew יוֹנָה (yoná, “dove”).
