From Proto-Turkic *ügi. Cognate with Bashkir өкө (ökö), Kyrgyz үкү (ükü), Kazakh үкі (ükı), Uzbek ukki, Uyghur ئۇكە (uke), Khakas ӱгӱ (ügü), Shor ӱгӱ (ügü), Tuvan үгү (ügü, Bubo bubo), etc.
