From Proto-Turkic *ebürdek (duck).

Cognate with Kyrgyz өрдөк (ördök), Karaim örd'ak, Kumyk оьрдек (ördek), Khakas ӧртек, Uzbek oʻrdak, Uyghur ئۆردەك (ördek), Crimean Tatar, Turkish, Gagauz ördek, Azerbaijani ördək, etc.
