From ӏуащхьэ (ʼwaśḥɛ, mount) +‎ махуэ (maxʷɛ, blessed); hence literally, blessed mountain, happy mountain.[1] Cognate with Adyghe ӏуашъхьэмафэ (ʼwaŝḥɛmafɛ).
