Etymology

[edit]

From *qazna (treasure), possibly adapted from Arabic خَزِينَة (ḵazīna, treasury) (if so, Doublet of хазина (xazina)), or from an Iranian source, possibly ultimately from Old Median *ganǰam (treasure).

Compare to qazna "treasury" in Codex Cumanicus; Tatar казна (qazna, treasury), Kazakh қазына (qazyna, treasury), Kyrgyz казна (kazna), казына (kazına, treasury), Khakas хазна (xazna, treasury).
