Etymology

Ultimately from Khitan [script needed] (Khita(n)), probably via Old Uyghur خىتاي.[1] Compare also Old Turkic 𐰶𐰃𐱃𐰪 and 𐰴𐰃𐱃𐰪 (/⁠qïtaň⁠/).
