Etymology
[edit]Possibly from Hungarian gomba (“mushroom”) + -овец (-ovec). Cognate with Slovak gombovec and Ukrainian ґомбовець (gombovecʹ), ґомбовці (gombovci), and perhaps also Serbo-Croatian гомбоц/gomboc.
