[edit]Historically, composed of Proto-Turkic *yạlïŋ (“naked, bare”) + Proto-Turkic *adak (“foot”).
Cognate with Kazakh жалаңаяқ (jalañaäq), Kyrgyz жыңалаяк (jıŋalayak), Crimean Tatar yalınayaq, Kumyk яланаякъ (yalanayaq), Karachay-Balkar джаланаякъ (calanayaq), Azerbaijani yalınayaq, Turkish yalınayak, Tatar яланаяк (yalanayak), Bashkir ялан аяҡ (yalan ayaq), etc.
