[edit]From *jinǯü ~ *jenčü (“pearl”), from Sinitic 珍珠 (MC trin tsyu, “pearl”).
Cognate with Old Uyghur [script needed] (jenčü, “pearl”); Bashkir ынйы (ınyı) Tatar энҗе (ence), Karachay-Balkar инджи (inci), Kumyk инжи (inji), Kazakh інжу (ınju), Kyrgyz инжу (inju), Shor ненчи, Khakas нинӌі (nincì), Northern Altai чиндьи (čindʹi) Tofa ниньҷи, Tuvan чинжи (çinji) Uzbek inju, Uyghur ئۇنجە (unje)/ئۇنجى (unji)/ئىنجۇ (inju), Turkish inci, Chuvash ӗнчӗ (ĕnč̬ĕ, “pearl”).
