From *yalqag(u) (lazy), from the verbal stem yalq- (to be annoyed, to have had enough of sth., to loath, be disgusted). Cognate with Kazakh жалқау (jalqau), Kyrgyz жалкоо (jalkoo), Bashkir ялҡау (yalqaw), Uzbek yalqov, Uyghur يالقاۋ (yalqaw), Tuvan чалгаа (çalgaa, lazy), etc.
