Cognate with Tatar җәен (cäyen, “catfish”), Kazakh жайын (jaiyn, “catfish”), Nogai яйын (yayın, “catfish”), Kumyk яйын (yayın, “catfish”), Kyrgyz жайын (jayın, “catfish”), Bashkir йәйен (yəyen, “catfish”), Chuvash ҫуйӑн (śujăn, “catfish”).
