Etymology 2
[edit]Originally єри́жка (jerýžka) (yeryzhka), from єри́ (jerý), name of the Cyrillic letter "ы" used in the orthography. Modern form due to influence from #Etymology 1 above, mocking those using the yaryzhka spelling as subservient to Russia.
