Etymology

Possibly from Proto-Turkic *ïŋïra- (to neigh; to bellow, purr). Cognate with Azerbaijani anqırmaq (to bray, yell), Turkmen yňranmak (to scream), Chuvash ӗнер (ĕner, to cry (of children)), Yakut иҥэрсий (iñersiy, to neigh quietly), etc.
