[edit]Inherited from Proto-Turkic *siŋek (“fly”) through a variant *siŋeg ~ *sïŋag.[1][2][3]
Cognate with Turkish sinek and Tuvan сээк (seek). Compare also Hungarian szúnyog, a Bulgar borrowing.[4]
