Etymology
[edit]Uncertain. According to Mladenov, it is related to шишарка (šišarka). According to Kurkina, it is formed by Proto-Slavic *kъlka (“bony stump”) with a putative prefix *ši- or *šče-, whence Russian щиколка (ščikolka).
