From Persian شلوار (šalvâr). Cognate with Kyrgyz чалбар (calbar), Kazakh шалбар (şalbar), Azerbaijani şalvar, Nogai шалбыр (şalbır), Bashkir салбар (salbar), Tatar чалбар (çalbar), Turkmen jalbar.
