[edit]From *čïnï-ayaq (“cup; bowl”), a composition of Persian چینی (čini, “porcelain”) + Proto-Turkic *ańak (“vessel, cup”).
Cognate with Tatar чынаяк (çınayak, “cup”), Bashkir сынаяҡ (sınayaq), Kazakh шыныаяқ (şynyaäq, “cup”), Khakas сыны аях (sını ayax, “porcelain cup”), Uzbek chinoyoq (“porcelain cup”), Turkmen çanak (“bowl; cup”), Azerbaijani çanaq (“bowl”).
