[edit]Borrowed from Ottoman Turkish چوربهجی / چورباجی (çorbacı, a military rank of the Janissaries, literally “soup cook”). Cognate to Bulgarian чорбаджи́я (čorbadžíja) and Greek τσορμπατζής (tsormpatzís).
