Borrowed from a Turkic language, ultimately from Middle Mongol *čeber, from Proto-Mongolic *čege-ber. Compare Tatar чибәр (çibär), Bashkir сибәр (sibər) and Mongolian цэвэр (cever). Cognates include Moksha цебярь (ćebäŕ).
