Etymology

Possibly from Alanic *cæfxad, metathesized from *cæxfad, from *cæg (ring) +‎ *fad (foot),[1][2] from Proto-Sarmatian *faδ, from Proto-Scythian *paδi, from Proto-Iranian *pā́dah. Equivalent to цӕг (cæg, ring) +‎ фад (fad, foot).
