[edit]Possibly from Alanic *cæfxad, metathesized from *cæxfad, from *cæg (“ring”) + *fad (“foot”),[1][2] from Proto-Sarmatian *faδ, from Proto-Scythian *paδi, from Proto-Iranian *pā́dah. Equivalent to цӕг (cæg, “ring”) + фад (fad, “foot”).
