[edit]Borrowed from Late Latin cynismus, from Ancient Greek κῠνῐσμός (kunismós). With -ізм (-izm) suffix. Compare Russian цини́зм (cinízm), Belarusian цыні́зм (cynízm), Polish cynizm.
