Etymology

[edit]

Since long connected with Old Church Slavonic гласъ (glasŭ), Russian голос (golos), but the common inheritance from Proto-Indo-European cannot explain the -l- (a rhotacism is expected in Iranian languages) and the second -æ-. More likely we are dealing with a borrowing from Old Church Slavonic гласъ (glasŭ) with expected pleophony.

Noun

хъӕлӕ́с (qælǽs)

  1. (Iron) voice
