Etymology

Borrowed from Turkic, from Mongolian [Term?], itself from Turkic. Ultimately from Proto-Turkic *katïr (mule). Related to Persian قاطر (qâter), which borrowed a directly inherited form of the word from another Turkic language. Compare Uzbek xachir and Uyghur خېچىر (xëchir); also Turkish katır, Azerbaijani qatır, Kazakh қашыр (qaşyr) etc.
