[edit]From Polish fartuch, from Middle High German vortuoch (whence German Fürtuch, regional German Vortuch (“apron”)). Compare dialectal фа́ртух (fártux), Ukrainian фарту́х (fartúx), Belarusian хварту́к (xvartúk). For the second part of the word doublet of га́лстук (gálstuk).
