[edit]From Proto-Slavic *ubьjьca. By surface analysis, уби́ти (ubýty, “to kill”) + ця (cja).
Compare Bulgarian уби́йца (ubíjca), Macedonian убица (ubica), Old Church Slavonic убиїца (ubiica), Russian уби́йца (ubíjca), and Serbo-Croatian убица.
