тхьэм бытырбыф

Adyghe

[edit]

Etymology

[edit]

From тхьэ (tḥɛ, God) +‎ бытырбыф (bətərbəf, Petersburg). Literally means “may God [send you to] Petersburg”. Saint Petersburg, a city in Russia, is far from Circassia and very cold. Thus, the meaning is comparable to "go to hell", or may God send you to a place so far away that you may never return.
