Etymology

From тогус (togus) +‎ он (on), from Common Turkic *toqquz-ōn (literally nine tens). Cognate with Azerbaijani doxsan, Kyrgyz токсон (tokson), Kazakh тоқсан (toqsan), Tatar туксан (tuqsan), Turkish doksan, Turkmen togsan, Uzbek toʻqson, Uyghur توقسان (toqsan), etc.
