[edit]Borrowed from Ottoman Turkish تنكه (teneke) (Turkish teneke), from Persian تنگه (tange), from Persian تنک (tonok, “تنک”, literally “thin”), from Middle Persian tnwk (tanuk, “thin, shallow”), from Proto-Indo-European *ténh₂us (“thin”). Compare Macedonian тенок (tenok, “thin”) and Macedonian танок (tanok, “thin”).
