[edit]From *tayaq (“stick; cane”), from Proto-Turkic *daja- (“prop, support; lean against”).
Cognate with Karakhanid [script needed] (tajaq, “stick, cane”); Tatar таяк (tayak), Kazakh таяқ (taäq), Kyrgyz таяк (tayak), Southern Altai таяк (tayak), Uzbek tayoq, Crimean Tatar tayaq (“stick”), etc.
