[edit]Attested as [script needed] (tabunaγud) in Classical Mongolian manuscripts. By surface analysis, табанан (tabanan, “khan’s son-in-law”) + -гууд (-guud, plural and associative suffix), referring to chieftain Turukhai Tabunan with his subjects.
