Bulgarian
[edit]Etymology
[edit]Borrowed from Russian сою́з (sojúz), itself borrowed from Old Church Slavonic съѭзъ (sŭjǫzŭ) - an alternative form of Old Church Slavonic съвѫзъ (sŭvǫzŭ). Cognate with the native dialectal terms Bulgarian въз m (vǎz), възе n (vǎze, “binder, fastener”), from Proto-Slavic *ǫzъ (“bond, tie”).
The secondary meaning conjunction is a calque of Latin coniūnctiō.
