[edit]су́ффикс • (súffiks) m inan (genitive су́ффикса, nominative plural су́ффиксы, genitive plural су́ффиксов)
Usage notes
[edit]- In Russian usage, су́ффикс (súffiks, “derivational suffix”) is distinguished from оконча́ние (okončánije, “inflectional ending”) and (in traditional textbook usage) по́стфикс (póstfiks, “terminal affix following an inflectional ending”); e.g. in the word держа́вшийся (deržávšijsja), the derivational affixes -а and -вш are called су́ффиксы (súffiksy), the nominative masculine singular ending -ий is called оконча́ние (okončánije), and the reflexive terminal affix -ся is called по́стфикс (póstfiks). In modern Russian linguistics usage, the term по́стфикс (póstfiks) encompasses all varieties of suffixes (including inflectional endings and post-ending terminal affixes) and is a better match for the usage of suffix in English.
