Perhaps from a Mongolic source - compare Mongolian чуулган (čuulgan, a gathering), Buryat суглаан (suglaan, to gather).

Compare to Tatar чолан (çolan, anteroom), Kazakh шолан (şolan, anteroom); Southern Altai чулан (čulan, cattle yard, anteroom), Shor шулан (cattle yard).
