Etymology

Inherited from Old Slovak slúchať, from Proto-Slavic *sluxati. Cognates include Czech poslouchat, Polish słuchać and Ukrainian слу́хати (slúxaty). By surface analysis, слух (slux) +‎ -ац (-ac).
