Noun

росі́я (rosíjaf inan (genitive росі́ї, uncountable)

  1. (derogatory, Internet slang) Russia (a country in Eastern Europe and Asia)

Usage notes

[edit]
  • The spelling of the country's name of Russia in all lowercase letters in Ukrainian has become very widespread since the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine as well as the Russian capital's name москва and the Russian president's surname путін, especially on social media. This is due to the extremely negative attitude of Ukrainians towards Russia in connection with the long-standing Russo-Ukrainian war that began in 2014.
