Bulgarian
[edit]Etymology
[edit]Disputed:
- According to St. Mladenov: From ров (rov, “ditch”) + -ък (-ǎk), originally meaning digable, delvable.
- According to Skok: Reanalyzed from Ancient Greek ῥοφτός (rhophtós), ῥοπτός (rhoptós). Compare Bulgarian ро́фет (rófet), ро́вит (róvit, “unboiled egg”) (dialectal).
