[edit]From Proto-Slavic *persolpъ, *perslopъ, formed as пре- (pre-) + слап (slap, “slant, tilt”) (dialectal). Cognate with Serbo-Croatian пресла̏п, пријеслоп (dialectal), Czech přislop, Polish przesłop, Slovak prieslop, Ukrainian пересліп (pereslip) (dialectal) (whence the typonym Переслоп).
