Etymology

Inherited from Old Slovak pomoc, from Proto-Slavic *pomoťь. Cognates include Carpathian Rusyn по́моч, по́міч, помӱч (pómoč, pómič, pomüč) and Slovak pomoc. By surface analysis, по- (po-) +‎ моц (moc) or deverbal from помочи (pomoči).
