[edit]Related to Bulgarian поми́я (pomíja, “sewage, swill, slops”), Polish pomyje (“slops, swill”), Old Church Slavonic помꙑѩ (pomyję). By surface analysis, по- (po-) + -мои (-moi), combining form of Russian мыть (mytʹ, “to wash”).
