[edit]Back-formed from the present stem of Proto-Slavic *pomilovati.
Pronunciation

[edit]поми́луя • (pomíluja) first-singular present indicative, impf (archaic)
- (transitive) Alternative form of поми́лвам (pomílvam, “to grant pardon, to show mercy”)
- (stative) to be merciful, forgiving
Usage notes
[edit]In the standard language, only the imperative поми́луй (pomíluj) is utilized, predominantly in prayers to God:
- Поми́луй нам, Бо́же! ― Pomíluj nam, Bóže! ― Show us mercy, God!
- Го́споди, поми́луй! ― Góspodi, pomíluj! ― Oh, Lord, be merciful!
