[edit]Inherited from Old Slovak polnoc, from Proto-Slavic *polъnoťь. Cognates include Carpathian Rusyn пувнуч (puvnuč), Czech půlnoc, Polish północ and Slovak polnoc. By surface analysis, пол (pol) + ноц (noc).
