[edit]Inherited from Old East Slavic папьрть (papĭrtĭ), from Proto-Slavic *papьrtь, from *pa- + *pьrtь (“front”). Cognate with Old Church Slavonic папръть (paprŭtĭ), Bulgarian папрът (paprǎt).
