[edit]Inherited from Old East Slavic осмꙑи (osmyi), осмъи (osmŷi), from Proto-Slavic *òsmъ, from Proto-Balto-Slavic *aśmas, ultimately from Proto-Indo-European *oḱtṓwos (“8th”), from *oḱtṓw (“8”).[1] Cognate with Russian восьмо́й (vosʹmój), Old Church Slavonic осмъ (osmŭ) and Old Czech osmý.
