Yakut

[edit]

Etymology

[edit]

(This etymology is missing or incomplete. Please add to it, or discuss it at the Etymology scriptorium.)

Other Turkic or Mongolic words are not even close to this word, and the Russian term is related with Yakut испиэскэ (ispieske) and English asbestos.

As for the only translation (of English lime) mentioned that is even close to this word, Wiktionary mentions Proto-Austronesian *qapuʀ (Tagalog apog, etc.) but this could easily be a chance resemblance.

Also compare Kazakh әк (äk), but this is from a Persian source, and may be even further afield.
