[edit]Inherited from Middle Russian огурецъ (ogurec) (огꙋрецъ; mid-16th c.), semi-calque from Old Ruthenian огꙋрокъ (ohurok) (1519+), itself a partial calque from Old Polish ogurek (1394+), from Byzantine Greek ἀγγούριον (angoúrion).
