From Proto-Samic *nuorë, from Proto-Finnic *noori, from Proto-Uralic *ńëre.

Related to Finnish nuori. Cognates include Ter Sami ны̄рр (nï̄rr), Skolt Sami nuõrr and Northern Sami nuorra.
