Borrowed from Ukrainian нудни́й (nudnýj), from Old Ruthenian нꙋдны́й (nudnýj, boring), from Old East Slavic нꙋдьнъ (nudĭnŭ, gruelling, difficult), from Proto-Slavic *nudьnъ. By surface analysis, ну́да (núda) +‎ -ный (-nyj).
