[edit]Inherited from Proto-Slavic *nevěnъ, a conflation of two synonymous stems:
- Deverbal from не- (ne-) + *vędnǫti (“to fade, to wither”).
- Contraction of не- (ne-) + *věxanъ (“contorted, buckled”).
