[edit]Likely borrowed from Ukrainian наді́я (nadíja), from Proto-Slavic *naděja. Native inheritance from Old Slovak nádej, nádeja would likely have resulted in *надзей (*nadzej) or *надзея (*nadzeja). By surface analysis, на- (na-) + дїя (djija).
