[edit]From *набалда́чник (*nabaldáčnik), from на- (na-) + балда́к (baldák, “large glass, cone, head”) + -ник (-nik), from Tatar балдак (baldaq, “hilt of a saber, knob on a saber handle, smooth ring without a stone”), or from Ottoman Turkish بالداق (baldak, “(same meaning)”).
