From *набалда́чник (*nabaldáčnik), from на- (na-) +‎ балда́к (baldák, large glass, cone, head) +‎ -ник (-nik), from Tatar балдак (baldaq, hilt of a saber, knob on a saber handle, smooth ring without a stone), or from Ottoman Turkish بالداق (baldak, (same meaning)).
